frequently asked questions
Q. What is the timeline?
The Big Easy runs in real time, so if it is December 24, 2014 on your calendar, then it's December 24, 2014 on your character's calendar.
Q. What sizes should my avatar/gif be?
Your avatar should be 250x400. Your gif for the miniprofile should be 200x200, but any perfect square will resize down for you!
Q. How do sitewide plots work? Can I suggest one?
Sitewide events will occur once a month, and all characters are welcome and encouraged to participate! They are a fun way to get everyone playing together and an excellent way to throw two characters together who might not otherwise have a reason to interact. You can definitely suggest a sitewide plot! Assuming it all makes sense and is feasible, we'll probably use your suggestion!
Q. How do plots like character death, twinning and pregnancy work?
Birth and death are parts of life, obviously. If your character dies and has been established on the board for more than six (6) months, the face will be retired. Otherwise, the face will be opened again. If your character gets pregnant, make sure this is talked over between all character involved (the mama and the papa, obviously). Any twins/triplets need to be run by an admin.
Q. Can my character be the -insert profession here-?
Be all that you can be! If you are hoping to be a profession where only one can exist (mayor, governor, police chief, principal) give a shout out to the admins to make sure there isn't one yet.
Q. What do labels like [m] or [tw] mean on threads?
A thread labeled [m] is considered to contain mature content. This most commonly means that it contains sexual content, though some people might label a thread [m] for drug use or something like that as well. A thread labeled [tw] is considered to have a trigger warning, meaning it could negatively affect or unnerve someone. This most commonly means that the thread contains rape, violence, self-harm, death etc.
Q. How do activity checks work here?
Buckle up and bear with me! Basically activity has two parts:
Part 1: Your characters have to be active.
Nat or Elle will go through characters at a set time and look for proof of activity. If we find it, you're good to go. If it's not there, that character's name will go on the check. IF your character is on the check, THEN you need to get up some proof of activity for that particular character within the following three days and link us to it in the check thread...at that point, you're good to go. If you do not, your character will be deleted. If the same character is on three consistent checks (meaning three times in a row you did not have activity for that character and had to post something new for them), you're going to get a probationary PM about keeping up with that character. There will be a reasonable timeframe that activity can be pulled from, so as long as you're here and posting with your people on a regular basis, chances are you're going to be a-okay. If you are on hiatus, you will be excused from the check but you will be required to post your characters within three days upon your return.
Part 2: If your character is on 3 checks
If your character is on 3 checks in a row, that character is put on a probationary period of a month. We will be monitoring the 5 day rule. If your character does not post every 5 days, they will be deleted. Absences will still count, but the length of your absence will be added onto the duration of the month probation. you will not be able to make another character if a character is deleted during probation until you go pass two checks in a row.
Hopefully this takes the burden of an activity check off of you guys though, so hopefully you won't even notice they're happening if you're doing your job and we're doing ours!
